Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Aug 31, 2021 6:33 pm Hi, Got a some new kitchen cabinets installed, and they all work great, except for the 2 large cutlery drawers. They are large (75 cm by 10 cm), and soft close and push to open using Blum components. Problem is if I don't give them a reasonable push to close then they bounce back open and don't close. So if I push hard they close, but if I push softly they nearly close but then bounce back (like theyhit a spring or something) The plate drawers under them are not push to open but are Blum soft close and work perfectly. Kitchen company says this is normal with push to open soft close. Are they correct ? cheers Jon Re: Blum soft close kitchen drawers bounce back 2Aug 31, 2021 6:52 pm Hi Jon Yes it is normal. I'd say you don't have anything in the drawers currently. The triggers that open the drawers come in different weight ratings depending on the assumed load the drawer will take. An empty drawer doesn't have enough weight to overcome the trigger so they tend to bounce open. Once you put weight in the drawer you will find they close nicely. We only have push to open on the top bank of drawers (as they abutt the porcelain countertops), and they are reasonably loaded with cutlery / knives etc. About 60 in one drawer. I assume no adjustment possible ? - they really need a fair push to get the soft close not to bounce back. The 2nd and 3rd drawers down aren't push to open, as they have finger grips on the top of them - but these close with little pinky finger pressure. Very nice. Just need to remember which drawer I am closing I suppose. cheers Jon. Re: Blum soft close kitchen drawers bounce back 8Sep 01, 2021 5:12 pm Hi Jon As I mentioned above the trigger units come in various weight ratings dependant on the size of the drawer and the assumed weight. Obviously a heavily loaded drawer needs more of a push from the trigger unit to get it open (and conversely closed). It may be that they have put a heavier trigger unit on your drawers than is required. This will spring the drawer open further but also require a bit more of a push to close. The trigger units are replaceable (for different weights) but not adjustable as far as closing pressure goes. The different drawer runners (soft close and tip-on) are the same, it's just the trigger unit that gives the tip-ons the push to open function. That is pretty standard. They do take a bit of a push to get past the trigger where as the standard runners don't have the trigger so pull in with no bounce. You could ask them to put the lightest trigger on the drawers. Any suggestions as to how to fix this? Re: Blum soft close kitchen drawers bounce back 12Dec 25, 2022 1:19 pm Hi Steve There are several different types of Blum drawer systems that incorporate soft close. Is it push to open or just soft closing? What do the drawer sides look like, are they single wall or multiwall? It's possible that the soft close mechanism has broken but it all depends on what system you have. If you could put up a picture of the drawer sides or maybe even a short video of exactly what happens I can give some more information.
