Browse Forums Windows & Doors 1 Apr 06, 2015 10:27 pm I am considering importing uPVC windows from China. Pending local quotes, and weighing up a risks model. So, here goes. Manufacturer Compliance FCL Container Costs Clearance Costs for Australia Installation Imported Windows Manufacturer ___________________________ Wouldn't go too cheap, so looks like my manufacturer runs around US$13,000 for the total window schedule. I think its better to avoid the cheapest. Thinking what would an importer of medium quality windows pay.? I'll attach a window schedule if from Australia willing to quote? Have not heard of Aton, Conch, Shide, Veka, Dimex, however company is known by these brands. Time to manufacturer is 5 weeks (Allowing 6 weeks) Compliance ___________________________ Received test window from Manufacturer from China via DHL. Uncertain if this is tested to AS 2047. Awaiting certificate copy. Game plan is to pay 50% upfront, then take delivery of documentation and final factory inspection, before packing in container. Measure and quality inspection. Company guarantees AS 2047, but not sure of questions I should ask before paying deposit. FCL Container Costs ___________________________ I have imported before. But never from China. Port is FUZHOU, CHINA. Using a higher end clearing house. Very professional. Anyone heard of Smith Lewis & Staff . I would rather pay an extra $500 for a quality customs broker. Any ideas? Container problem. Just checked my quote. one window is 300mm too high. So will not fit in container door. maximum height 2270mm. Will speak to building designer, and get an edit before planning to hobsons bay council. Clearance Costs for Australia ___________________________ USD $12,000 (China Manufacturer) USD $1,200 (GST Payable) USD $650 (Container Cost) AUD $600 (5% DUTY) PLUS..... Waiting on clearance charges, wharf fees, container delivery to area 2 (VIC). We only have 2-3 days to unload, and residential is not suitable. Port to Port estimate is 4 weeks (Allowing 6-7 weeks) Installation Imported Windows ___________________________ Still looking for details about installation. Could be tricky. I am looking for a good installer. Maybe chat with one before settlement. Re: Importing uPVC Windows from China 2Apr 07, 2015 4:23 pm Some further information in relation to locally built windows. 1) Windows are heavy, and dangerous to transport from thee container, to your site. Costs could be heavy here. 2) Locally built windows have the frame inserted first, then when the house is watertight, the glaziers come in and fit. So the frames are easily handled, lighter. Seems like a plus for local built. I better get some weights of my big windows. Could be a nightmare. 3) Lead times are 4-5 weeks, not 10 weeks. Later changes maybe useful. Re: Importing uPVC Windows from China 3Apr 09, 2015 4:11 pm Having imported from China for around 18 years, including PVC windows, may I give some advice... The critical factor in the quality of PVC windows is in the actual PVC itself, the formulation decides how long the colour will last (yes, white too can yellow) and how the window will perform structurally. Then there is the actual quality of the finished product ex-factory. Try to get references from customers old and new. Also ask how they were packed into the container, whether there was any damage. Ask for the physical test report for each product type. Contact the test lab and make sure it's real. I have recently had samples from several factories and only one was of real merchantable quality. This is where they are sending samples to a window company!!! Ed "ECOECO" At 'EcoEco', we design windows, we design the best windows, we do it for you, so that when you’re happy we are happy. The cost to remedy any hiccups may eliminate the savings. Risk vs reward I guess.
