Re: Our Coral Heron: For the Pic Piggies! 47Mar 26, 2009 8:47 pm I've been a bit slack keeping things up todate, but I have to say WOW Coral Homes! Things are moving along really quickly and hopefully they'll keep the pace up...without compromising quality of course! It's all looking really good too. Our roof is finished, walls are wrapped, electrical wiring has been done and most exciting, the bricking started today I've been worried about how my kitchen will look with the rangehood just sticking out of the ceiling - no over head cupboards or anything. So after a brief discussion with our SS earlier this week, our chippy is meeting me on Saturday morning to look at putting a bulk head in. Fantastic. We're really pleased with how everything is going. We were worried at one point, but it's all good now and really we didn't have anything to worry about. Just us being fussy. Jess we LOVE the colour of the roof. We thought the sambucca would be too stark for us, and liked the slightly lighter barramundi. The gutter is Ironstone and the fascia is supposed to be Dune. I need to take my sample out and compare it because the more I look at it, the more I think it looks too beige. Could just be the way the light hits it, though the power box sure is not Dune - I'm not sure if they're meant to match though. Re: Our Coral Heron: More progress! 52Mar 28, 2009 9:51 am How good do our bricks look Looks like they're pretty much done - we can still see a row that needs to be finished, but it's looking awesome an all done in 2 days! Gyprocking to start next week. http://i470.photobucket.com/albums/rr64/JellyLegs01/100_0066.jpg http://i470.photobucket.com/albums/rr64/JellyLegs01/100_0067.jpg http://i470.photobucket.com/albums/rr64/JellyLegs01/100_0069.jpg Re: Our Coral Heron: More progress! 53Mar 28, 2009 12:46 pm congrats jellylegs, it's looking soooo good! it's great that after all your previous troubles with banks etc that coral has knuckled down and is building your dream in good time!!! very excited for you! 2014 - Prepping to build the Soho 4 with Plantation homes, industrial style 2009 - Built the Brampton with Coral Homes viewtopic.php?f=31&t=15399&start=280 Re: Our Coral Heron: More progress! 54Mar 28, 2009 12:51 pm Wow jellylegs...your house looks awesome....the exterior colours look wonderful Hope the speed of your build continues to chug along nicely. What colours will your front door and garage door be? Re: Our Coral Heron: More progress! 56Mar 29, 2009 7:47 pm Thanks guys, I don't know about record breaking - I think Wakeboardandy will take that one out, but we're not far behind him which is great. We're really impressed with our builder, they're just flying along. *Touch Wood* don't want to jinx that now, but yes, it is such a relief after our horrible start. The garage and front door will both be colourbond Dune, same as the fascia. I'm REALLY nervous about that choice now, I don't think it will look as good as we'd imagined when we picked it. Too late to do anything about it now though, so we'll just have to hope for the best. We were there this weekend putting batts in the internal walls. What an ordeal that was! We were told that we could use tape, so we did that on Saturday thinking it would be quicker and easier than string. When we went back this morning to finish the last few off most of the tape had come away and a few of the batts were falling out. Soooo - off to the hardwear store to buy duct tape. That peeled off the moment it was put on, so it was another trip back to the hardwear store to buy string and do it right. We just spent today redoing the whole lot! Re: Our Coral Heron: More progress! 57Mar 30, 2009 7:10 am I feel your pain about the batts! I was in charge of the home theature insulation over the weekend - we paid perry to do the rest thank god. my partner just said nail and string it then chuck the batts in....a couple of hours later I had the itchiest skin! LOL worth it though! I think Dune will look good and will tie everything together it is such a lovely neutral colour. Everything is looking lovely Jelly Legs - your bricks are fantastic !!!!! Kylie handover happened 15/6/09...love living on an acre but still so much to do! Re: Our Coral Heron: More progress! 58Mar 30, 2009 7:19 am what kind of string did you use jelly and how are you mounting that to your timberwork, just with small nails? Re: Our Coral Heron: More progress! 59Mar 30, 2009 1:20 pm Hi Billdsl, We nailed into the (oh - here we go with technical terms...) horizontal bit of wood that is screwed into the slab on both sides of the 'wall'. We tied the string to one nail, took it up and wrapped it around the noggin to keep the tension, then up and over the top and back down, around the noggin and tied it to the nail on the other side. Then we bent the nails over the knots so it didn't pull off. Probably not the way the pro's would do it, but meh, it does the job. I think we used garden twine - it was what the guy at the shop gave me. I hope its not too thick, but you would want to use something fairly sturdy. We had some thin stuff at home (I think left over from Christmas pudding!!) but it just kept snapping. We did 3 bedrooms rooms and a few other walls and used about 300m of string and 6 bags of R1.5 batts which cost $45 each at bunnings. We were told the acoustic batts cost twice as much and these ones do a comparable job for a lot less $$$. Before we put these in, you could stand at one end of the house and easily have a conversation with someone at the other end. After putting them in, you had to be in the same room to hear them clearly and that's without any gyprock. Hope these pics are clear enough to give you an idea: http://i470.photobucket.com/albums/rr64/JellyLegs01/100_0114.jpg http://i470.photobucket.com/albums/rr64/JellyLegs01/100_0115.jpg Re: Our Coral Heron: More progress! 60Mar 30, 2009 2:16 pm thanks for the photo's that sounds like the go, what did you do with your power cabling? Ask the council if there is a chance of getting build over easement exemption. Sometimes easements are unused and 24cm is not all that much. Good luck. And yes any builder… 2 14836 In Qld it is a requirement that a builder must have a cost breakdown, for building a home to the same specification, with the same inclusions and the same finish.
