Browse Forums Increasing Home Value 1 Sep 16, 2014 10:20 am Has anyone supplied their own when building with a builder? I've been told there is a lot of money to save by buying the tanks yourself and using the builders plumber to install or sourcing your own. I'm looking at building on acreage and require minimum 31,500 ltr water tank and will need HSTP too. Anyone that has done this i'd love to hear from you. thanks Re: Water Tanks & HSTP 2Sep 16, 2014 1:14 pm It depends on where your build is and if you propose to use a local builder or a City builder. If using a local builder, get him to do everything including site services. If your build is in the country and you use a city builder, then they may welcome the idea not to be responsible for site services due to their supervision costs. Talk to your preferred builder to find out their opinion in this matter. Re: Water Tanks & HSTP 3Sep 16, 2014 3:15 pm I got a price from a project builder for my house at one stage, and the 31500 l water tank and pump was going to cost me $11000. I later on went owner builder, and the same Taylex water tank cost me $4750, and they would've charged me another $2000 to dig the hole and partially bury the tank. However as my earthmoving guy was there, he dug the hole and backfilled it for me, and that cost me $800 on top of all the other work he did here. HSTP systems, most won't entertain the idea of you selecting a different HSTP system over the one that they sell. I went with a A & A Worm Farm Systems one, which in my case uses ZERO electricity because my tank is higher than the transpiration pits. The regular HSTP systems run pumps 18 hours a day, so there's the high cost of electricity involved there. Owner Building at Jimboomba Woods in Logan City Qld. That's in the Jimboomba Woods estate too. Just be aware that some project builders won't allow you to do certain things, although I think some of them might actually like you to do that. Be sure to check what they do intend to charge you for these things. I know one project builder said that we couldn't do our own earthmoving, with the implication that only their earthmovers know how to move dirt for the house pad, and that if we did do it ourself we might still have to pay them to "fix" up the job later on. Of course when I chose to go owner builder I could do whatever I wanted to do. Owner Building at Jimboomba Woods in Logan City Qld. Ive spoken to Dixon homes who we think we will build with and luckily they are happy for us to supply our own tanks, so ive just got to get around to getting the quotes now! Thanks for the helpful advice muchly appreciated Re: Water Tanks & HSTP 7Sep 16, 2014 6:15 pm Forgot about that Edenvale estate.... they've got a few larger blocks in there too. Here's a earthmoving bloke that I got to do all my earthworks here. Remarkable Earthmoving Mark 0423 847 353 I believe he lives in Cedar Grove too. Taylex Tanks are the tanks pretty much exclusively used in S E Qld if you go for concrete tanks. Check out the HSTP I suggested, and then weigh them all up together and see which suits you best. Re: Water Tanks & HSTP 8Sep 16, 2014 6:56 pm bpratt - thank you so much! I will definitely contact Mark when we are up to that stage - thanks for the contact and advice Re: Water Tanks & HSTP 9Jun 11, 2015 4:04 pm How did you go? We found when we were looking at project builders was going to cost $12,000 to have HSTP done, when we looked into it ourselfs with TAYLEX system could be done for $8,000 ... in the end my custom builder did it for $8,500 i was happy to spend the $500 to not have to deal with the crap (pardon the pun) of organising and getting it hooked up working with the builders plumber... Re: Water Tanks & HSTP 10Jun 12, 2015 11:08 am Hey Bees, we ended up with a 31,500 ltr poly water tank and HSTP system from Taylex through our builder for about $15,000. $8200 for the HSTP and $6846 for the water tank, which we were happy to pay - thought that was quite a good price so we just went with that. I had a private quote done through Taylex which was much the same so like you, instead of dealing with it ourselves we just let the builder organise it Re: Water Tanks & HSTP 12Sep 11, 2015 2:21 pm E563 It is making me cry what you guys pay for Taylex HTSP over east. In Perth, I cannot seem to get one for less than $13K installed with irrigation. that's a joke i could ahve got mine not thoguh builder for $7,800 and through builder 8,200 ... that included the sprinkler irrigaiton and 1yr of free servicing...
