i also think it needs some varying heights as everything finishes/starts at the same level. and a light fixture above the dining table to anchor the room. just my two cents... [sneakersss] Re: Now it’s your turn……HELP!! 22Oct 20, 2008 9:18 pm I thought about a light, but I have fan above the table. I think it is the colour of both the feature wall and flow colour for this room. Remember that pretty lemon colour you had for another thread, something like that would help soften all the wood furnishings. I also think a beautiful soft patterned wall art above the buffet would link all the wood into the room and it would become the focal point. Something likes these (your colour and taste of course) Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ The chest of drawers I would remove completely ...out of the room as it is a different style and colour to the rest of the furnishings. Declutter all the knick knacks off the floor and have out only what you consider the most beautiful and meaningful to you. The long white sheers idea I would have on your windows, floor to ceiling. No feature wall, let a striking piece of art work be the feature. The rug I would change as well, find a much more contempoary style that goes with the style of art work that is choosen. This pendant looks really nice up and instead of putting a light above the table you could actually hang it as part of your things on your rattan side board against the wall, just hang it lower, more around head height. You really good full benefits of the light. This is a pricier option though. Re: Now it’s your turn……HELP!! 25Oct 20, 2008 9:45 pm I half agree with Mrs B and think it is the flow colour that doesn't quite work.
That and the flooring ... timber flooring would work well with the rest of the room, but I realise you can't change the tiles. Maybe too many decorative objects in the room at present? Don't think we're being much help - don't even agree with each other! Edit: I love the feature wall colour, would move the mirror and just hang something large and rectangular (landscape orientation) in the centre of the wall. Nice ideas as well. But I am slowly piecing it together. It still needs to be a slight Balinese’s influence. I would put in a darker rug and a large dark timber framed rectangular mirror on your feature wall.
I can hear everyone else shouting "No, No, No!" already. Re: Now it’s your turn……HELP!! 34Oct 20, 2008 10:25 pm Don't all laugh at once ... my photoshop trial has expired OK?
The thing on the feature wall is meant to be a mirror, may have made it a tad larger than planned. And the rug should be textured. Those green things are plants OK? Warmed the wall and ceiling colour up a bit but missed a door. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Think I need some sleep! Picked the rug colour from the border of your existing rug. Has anyone mentioned a wood or cane ceiling fan, or is that just taking it all a bit too far? Re: Now it’s your turn……HELP!! 35Oct 21, 2008 4:56 am d@n How old is the rug?. it looks faded and dusty. Dan the rug is 4 years old…..it has faded, (Not dusty) that’s why we have put the awning on the BBQ area, it was a very hot room in the afternoons. The bedroom may get that mirror , I was going to buy another for in there, but I’ll see now what I do out in the dining room. Internal and External Building and Colour Consultant Online - Worldwide http://www.denovoconcepts.com Re: Now it’s your turn……HELP!! 37Oct 21, 2008 5:28 am This room as changed a lot since the awning went up.
The room is now dark all the time, indoor plants don’t do as well in there as they used to. I have just taken down the timber blinds, as we have no reason for them there anymore. That has helped a bit as well, they were making the room darker. The proportion of the mirror on the back wall is wrong, as someone has said, it needs to be bigger. Took more photos this morning, woke up very early. This is the whole room. It really is a lovely room I really think all that is needed is a bit of furniture reshuffling. Take the drawers out of the room (wrong style) swap the buffet unit and put it up against the red wall. Add a soft coloured longish piece of artwork (like lyn had in the photoshop) and I really think this would improve the room. After looking at the room in different times of the day, I think what has happened is that the furniture is too 'heavy' in the room with the dark feature wall. The mirror I would actually keep but put it on the other wall. To sum my decorating advise up 1. Take drawers out 2. Swap buffet unit over 3. Change colour of feature wall 4. Add a pretty piece of wall art to soften room...fairly large 5. Declutter...only beautiful pieces that you love Mrs B Re: Now it’s your turn……HELP!! 40Oct 21, 2008 7:42 am Mrs B 1.
