Browse Forums Flooring & Floor Covering 1 Apr 21, 2009 9:38 pm Hi Would like some decking timber finish recommendations. We are installing tallowwood decking (90 x 19mm) & want to seal it with something appropriate to keep it looking good. TIA HH Life's too short too drink bad wine Re: Decking Timber Finish 3Apr 24, 2009 7:22 pm Sikkens Cetol HLS (not Cetol Deck!) I wouldn't use anything else personally. Tallowood is a very oily timber, make sure you wash the timber first with an oxalic acid based timber cleaner (Intergrain Reviva is one of the strongest) Re: Decking Timber Finish 4Apr 27, 2009 7:05 pm Thanks, Luke. Timber is currently drying at the mill. Do we need to leave it on site for while before laying? PS Loving the look of the tallowood, very happy with that choice. Life's too short too drink bad wine Re: Decking Timber Finish - one more Q pls Luke 7May 12, 2009 9:36 pm Just 3 coats of HLS. If you were to use the Cetol Deck on hardwood it would need a base coat of HLS Cetol HLS is also used as a base coat under Cetol Filter 7 on furniture and outdoor joinery timber (windows, doors etc) I have Cetol HLS (3 coats) on my verandah as do several friends and many builders I know through work use Sikkens HLS as well for hardwood decks. ........and before anyone asks, no I don't sell it! I bough mine at Bunnings Hi, as per the subject. Does anyone have any recommendations for the best value decking oil (Bunning is close to where I live) for a treated pine deck?
