Browse Forums Lighting + Lighting Design 1 Mar 08, 2009 10:18 am DH and I had found a light fitting we both agreed on but I recently realised that the only other house in our development has them so I've gone totally off them. it could be years before anyone else builds here and the other house is only down the street. Plus I was only half keen on them to start with ( the light not the neighbours) DH and I have very different tastes in lots of things and sadly lights are going to be a sticking point I think. Looking at interior lights again yesterday we couldn't really find anything we both liked except a few that neither of us "disliked intensely" Nothing that he really liked I liked and vise versa. We did happily agreed on a few we disliked a lot so I guess that's a start. Found this light yesterday. DH thinks it's terrific. I'm not 100% convinced but we found out about a house with them so we will be going for a drive to check them out. The 2nd one I liked far better but DH didn't.However I am not really sold on having up/down lighting and would rather have something that sends the light outwards as well so we'll see what DH's cho choice looks like IRL. This colour fitting would look good with our colorbond ironstone roof. I can't imagine having Dh's choice as a patio wall light fitting though. Both compton and merculator have it. I REALLY REALLY like the second one. Re: garage lights and external lights 4Mar 08, 2009 12:49 pm I like the bottom one the best. I don't like how you can see the bulb in the first one either, sorry... I do agree with DH that I would prefer a light that shines outwards rather than lights the ground and the eaves. We want something useful not just pretty. Otherwise I'd be pushing hard for the bottom one. The first 2 are variations of the same sort of design. From 2 different manufacturers. I have counted them as one style and the 2nd photo as the 2nd style. Re: garage lights and external lights 7Mar 08, 2009 2:54 pm kexkez there are ones you can get just like the bulb-showing one only with a frosted pane over the bulb... I'm sure you've seen them, can't find a pic but did find this one which I also think is nice.

Where did it come from?>??? The idea of one with a frosted bit appeals. haven't seen any but if you find a picture and a link I'd appreciate it.
the previous post Dh doesn't like those. but will show him the 2nd last pic when he walks past. these ones complete with/without sensor aren't too bad. We can both also imagine these working as normal bunker type lights for outside the laundry and outside the dining area where we will eventually have an additional patio. of course they are more expensive. 126 and 135 (with sensor) argh Re: garage lights and external lights 10Mar 08, 2009 5:00 pm Re: garage lights and external lights 11Mar 08, 2009 6:05 pm ok anyone got any pics of what a standard basic external wall light fitting looks like? The basic thing you get from the builder at handover. Not an upgraded light. we have 5 external lights one outside our laundry door and one outside our dining room that are both wall lights as well as a ceiling alfreco which would be a normal bayonet fitting and 2 lights on the garage walls. What do builders supply as a basic handover fitting?. In our last house we had a jointed light fitting so that the electric contact bit was sheltered from weather for our only wall light. The globe just fitted into it( it had a bayonet end within the housing.
So please show me your wall lights. Not upgraded versions just builders bog standard basic version. Re: garage lights and external lights 12Mar 08, 2009 7:14 pm the only exterior light fittings our builder put in were floodlights/spotlights, which we have a few of in the back and alfresco.
Anyway these were the ones I was talking about earlier; looking again they're actually not that similar to your bulb-showing ones are they...
