Browse Forums Flooring & Floor Covering 1 Dec 04, 2017 1:30 pm Hey Guys Couple of queries in relation to flooring. We are building a townhouse (double storey) 1) First Floor - Must be carpet? or can go timber? 2) TV / Theater Room - Should we do carpet? Or timber? Been reading about acoustics and stuff.. Not too sure. Currently it has timber 3) Timber type: Builder is offering Embelton (I believe) Solid Timber Flooring. Also, have the option of going Engineered timber flooring... Which one to go for? 4) Carpet: Looking at the Signature Carpet Cashmere Touch Sensation range (https://www.signaturefloors.com.au/cashmere-touch/) - is that good or any other recommendations? Re: Flooring Options in various areas 3Dec 14, 2017 2:07 pm Also keen to hear more about Signature Carpet Cashmere Touch. I'm thinking of getting that as well. It's softened nylon, so not Solution Dyed Nylon but still seems to have a high rating for durability. Any thoughts appreciated. Re: Flooring Options in various areas 4Dec 28, 2017 5:47 pm its Hey Guys Couple of queries in relation to flooring. We are building a townhouse (double storey) 1) First Floor - Must be carpet? or can go timber? If you want to reduce the noise from upstairs to down.... I would suggest carpet 2) TV / Theater Room - Should we do carpet? Or timber? Been reading about acoustics and stuff.. Not too sure. Currently it has timber Most people I know or do work for prefer carpet only for the comfort side of it. If you want your room to boom.... hard flooring will do it. 3) Timber type: Builder is offering Embelton (I believe) Solid Timber Flooring. Also, have the option of going Engineered timber flooring... Which one to go for? Embelton SOLID???? I think you will find this is floating engineered. 4) Carpet: Looking at the Signature Carpet Cashmere Touch Sensation range (https://www.signaturefloors.com.au/cashmere-touch/) - is that good or any other recommendations? Soft Carpet? Not my favourite.... go stand on it for a minute and see what it looks like. Try a shorter pile. Embelton might be engineered flooring.. But what would you suggest between solid or engineered? and any brand etc we should look at? What brand / quality carpet would you suggest? and underlay? Re: Flooring Options in various areas 6Mar 22, 2018 1:47 am Question to be asked - how often do you plan to vacuum/clean your carpets? Engineered wood is much better when it gets to everyday cleaning, maintenance and looks, healthier too (i.e. carpet is the magnet for the dust which contains allergens). Just put some rugs in the areas where you want to keep it soft (e.g. near the beds). From costs standpoint, high end good quality 100% natural wool carpet with the right underlay will be costing significantly more than good quality engineered wood flooring (e.g. you can get engineered oak for less than $100 per sqm supplied and installed). If you are concerned about acoustics, it makes sense to invest into the batts between the floors (unless you get concrete slab, which even better), they are generally less than $10 per sqm. The only thing about engineered floors (including bamboo floors) - make sure you get ask for E0 certificate to make sure the vendor is complying with the strictest possible formaldehyde emissions standard. Formaldehyde is generally contained in the glue used to manufacture particle boards base of the engineered wood flooring. Solid wood flooring is better from that standpoint as it doesn't use particle boards in its base and it is also more durable from maintenance perspective. Re: Flooring Options in various areas 7Mar 27, 2018 10:41 pm In TV room & Bedroom, there should be soft rug which will give good feel and look.
