Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Aug 09, 2021 12:57 pm Hi. We are building our first build with a builder and wanted Flushed & Brushed mortar with Tribeca bricks. The photos show what we have ended up with, not happy. The bricklayer has been back three times to rectify and has just made the job worse each time by patching with his finger, not cleaning and different colours of mortar. There is also a lot of cracking in the mortar. Has anyone here had brickwork flushed & brushed? Can you provide some photos of what it should look like? I have searched the net but can mostly just find UK building repointing. We are due to go to PCI shortly and do not want to sign off. The builder has sent us an email last week saying they will not carry out any further work to the bricks. Please help. The builder is obliged to deliver a house with workmanship that meets these standards. Make sure you check this before PCI. How do I know if it meets standards? Who is the best to contact? Re: Brick & Mortar quality 5Aug 09, 2021 2:07 pm Download your state's fair trading department guide to consumer building standards and tolerances and check the brickwork section. Its pretty straightforward for homeowners. These reference aust standards. Re: Brick & Mortar quality 6Aug 19, 2021 10:07 pm I'm not sure if this will help you much, but my bickie recently did me up this sample of three different mortar styles. This photo is not quite as clear, but here they've done the same - three courses each style but with white mortar. The bottom right hand side is probably what you have.
